A Day of Remembrance

On Saturday, 9-19-09, Neil and I went to Laketown, Utah, the home of my father, Kenneth Myers. One of his dear friends, Jim Taylor, from highschool had organized the making and placement of a memorial to all those from the town and surrounding area who had served in the military of the United States. It was a beautiful day I shared with my sister Donna and her husband, my brother Steve and his son Justin and Aunt Laura. Uncle Russ and some of his children were there also. I don't think those of us who have not experienced war can fully appreciate what was given by all those who did experience it. I feel so greatful for my father and uncles and the heritage they have given me.

Labor Day Water Activity

Well we had a houseful and a tub full over Labor Day Weekend. Jess brought up a boat and the kids decided to go to Palisaides Lake on Saturday and Monday. He also brought up a box of old material that belonged to his grandma. The kids got very creative making flying capes and the girls made stylish dresses.
These times are so fun-filled. Just watching the kids is so entertaining.

I meant to show more pictures of the inside of the coop. I designed it with my age in mind and it has walls that never need to be painted and I can wash them down with a hose. I enter the coop with two sets of doors. One set I can close in the winter and the other set has quarter inch screen so the flies can fly in and out and there will be lots of fresh air so it doesn't get stinky. I can collect eggs from the back side of the nests and I hope the grandkids find this fun.

I just wanted to show my beautiful raspberries. I am hoping next year to get more than just a taste of them. But, oh, the few I get are just a juicy treasure. I think where we live must be petunia heaven. Our fish our doing well and the floweres by the gate are really trying to be beautiful but I keep tromping them down as I am determined to pull the dang weeds that are trying their best to take over. I will win that battle.

CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK

Well it took us all summer but our chicken coop is finally done. Now all we need are chickens!!!!

We originally thought we would build a seperate coop but one day I got this idea of just incorporating the coop half in the barn and put the run on the outside of the barn. Wow!

I read alot about chickens trying to out guess every problem in the design but it kind of took on a life of it's own. You know the expression, "If I had known then what I know now......" I tried to design it with the fact in mind that I am getting older and I wanted the upkeep as easy as possible for me (and Neil on those cold, wintery mornings) and I wanted it fun for the grandkids.

Life among the peas.....

My first attempt at growing peas was amazing. I planted them in the ground the day the snow was gone and the dirt was thawed two inches deep. They literally grew to be five feet tall and the little toddlers got lost in them as they went between the rows. We had fresh peas for about a month. Everyone LOVED grandma's pea patch!
